Strategic Planning

TCG has significant experience in all aspects of strategic planning for research institutions. Quite simply, “strategy” is the choice of which activities to undertake and how to undertake significant experience in all aspectsthem.  For example, we helped an Eastern US university define a new strategy for its technology transfer activities.  The institution was experiencing increased inventive activity and was looking for the best way to capture value from its intellectual property while fostering increased campus innovation and entrepreneurship.  TCG developed a roadmap and plan to accomplish both.

Strategic planning starts with an accurate assessment of the external environment (the changing situation and the key participants) as well as the identification of the valuable institutional strengths that can be leveraged.  With this information, the creative strategy development process begins.  Possible strategies are postulated, and then evaluated for their likelihood of success and their relative cost.  Once a few strategic possibilities are defined, a more in-depth analysis reveals which approaches are the most valuable

The TCG team has led research management and technology transfer programs at major universities, non-profit organizations and governmental research agencies, and has consulted with many of them as well.  This includes the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and many such organizations in Europe.
