Tom Marten

Tom Marten has over twenty years of strategic planning, brand marketing, US and global market research, business analysis, sales administration, and field sales experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.  He has had leadership roles with both large pharma and specialty biopharma companies including Glaxo Inc., Glaxo Wellcome, Bayer Biological Products, and Talecris Biotherapeutics. 

Specific areas of therapeutic area experience include HIV, oncology, immunology, anti-infectives, thrombosis and hemostasis, neurology, pulmonology, and hepatitis.  Mr. Marten has commercial involvement in over 10 major pharma/biopharma product launches and significant experience in new product development, commercial strategy development, brand positioning, post launch marketing, sales force size and structuring initiatives, and incentive compensation plan development. 

As a consultant, Tom has worked with numerous early stage specialty pharma companies in addition to working with big pharma and medical device companies.  Tom has managed numerous qualitative market research projects to support strategic planning initiatives and has worked on business-to-business partnering and new product development projects for pharma clients and clients in the medical device industry.  Tom has also written business plans, constructed market based forecasts, and developed risk adjusted financial valuation models to support strategic planning and VC fund raising initiatives.  He is a business advisor for two startup specialty pharma companies and is an active consultant for a life science economic development business incubator program.

Tom has a B.S. in Medicinal Chemistry from the State University of NY at Buffalo and an MBA in Finance from the William E. Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester.
