Paul Waugaman
Mr. Waugaman has 40 years experience in technology transfer and research management, specializing in academic-business technology transfer, research management and research program planning and evaluation.
Mr. Waugaman has managed major technology transfer projects, including several large international deals, and has provided advice to companies, academic institutions and independent research institutes on the structure and conduct of patenting, licensing and technology transfer programs. Mr. Waugaman is recognized as an expert in benchmarking university-industry technology transfer performance and best practices.
Prior to TCG, Mr. Waugaman led the technology licensing and industry-sponsored research administration programs at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and at North Carolina State University. He also served on the staff of the North Carolina Governor, Board of Science and Technology, evaluating the organization of the State's technological innovation programs. Mr. Waugaman has also served as Director of Management Projects at Duke University Medical Center. His earlier career includes 23 years at the National Institutes of Health where he served as the principal management officer at two NIH institutes.
Mr. Waugaman has studied at the American University and Indiana University, and earned a B.A. in political science and Masters degrees in public management and public policy. He has been active in the Association of University Technology Managers, the Licensing Executives Society, and the Society of Research Administrators.
